Computer Science 40th Anniversary Symposium

All symposium participants had the pleasure of attending two morning and two afternoon panel discussions involving some of the nation’s leading experts in computer science and information technology.

9:00 AM: Opening Speakers

Susanne E. Hambrusch, Head of the Department of Computer Sciences and Professor of Computer Sciences

Sally K. Frost Mason, Provost of Purdue University and Professor of Biological Sciences

Jeffrey S. Vitter, Dean of the School of Science

9:15 AM: Morning Panel Discussions

Felix Haas, who was instrumental in establishing the Department of Computer Sciences in October 1962, shared some insights that begun the morning panel discussions. He is the Arthur G. Hansen Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Mathematics.

9:45 AM: Life as a Student
Panelists to include Chris Benes, Mike Goodrich, Ajay Gupta, Tom Ho, Kevin Kahn, and Steve Tolopka.

11:00 AM: Remembering People Who Made a Difference
Panelists to include Walter Gautschi, Mike O'Donnell, Herb Schwetman, Vincent Shen, John Steele, and Curt Worsey.

12:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Lunch and CS Building Open House

Rounded up some old or new friends for lunch. You were also invited to the Department of Computer Sciences for an open house and tours.

2:00 PM: Afternoon Panel Discussions

William Aspray made opening remarks for the afternoon session. A widely recognized professor of informatics at the Indiana University School of Informatics, his special interests are the historical, political, and socioeconomic aspects of information technology.

2:30 PM: The Future of Information Technology
Panelists to include Andre Bondi, Eric Dittert, Alan Hevner, Kevin Kahn, and Dave Schrader.

3:45 PM: The Future of Academic Computing Research
Panelists to include Linnea Cook, Dennis Gannon, Larry Peterson, Dan Reed, Walter Tichy, and Stu Zweben.

A grand Dinner Celebration culminated what was sure to be a memorable day!

Our featured banquet speaker was Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon.
